All SuperValu retailers take pride in the Food Safety & Quality standards that they maintain in their stores.

To ensure this is maintained, all stores are approved to the Q Mark for Hygiene and Food Safety as managed by EIQA. Annual approval requires passing a detailed, unannounced audit.

All SuperValu’s retain the Q Mark which makes SuperValu the only Irish retailer with the largest number (221) of independently audited stores. We have also successfully achieved the overall National Award across all EIQA categories for the past 10 years.

Each store has a dedicated Food Safety Champion to manage all systems and compliance. The Food Safety Champion must also ensure that staffs are fully trained in food safety principles in addition to the specifics of their role.

SuperValu has been part of the Q Mark programme for over 30 years. The benefits include:

• Approval to an independent Quality accreditation enhances customer confidence - third party certification confirms that the organisation aspires to the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
• Provides the opportunity to benchmark against other organisations using the same framework, including Irish market leaders.

In 2015, a new bespoke Food Safety Training Programme was launched for SuperValu Food Safety Champions. This provides end-to-end Food Safety Training to ensure that each person is an expert in their role. It also enables them to train all store staff to the appropriate level of Food Safety.
